I did what you suggested and cleaned the Evaporator coil. I used some commercial "NO RINSE" evaporator coil cleaner I had on hand to clean
my home's Central A/C evaporator coil. There was no filter but there was a small amount of "aged dead tree debris" which I was able to vacuum
out before cleaning coil as per the directions on cleaner! The fact I no longer have to see that pained look on my wife's face or hear the repetitive
complaint about the smell from the A/C vents any longer "Priceless". Thanks for your help!

You might want to try cleaning through the filter slot with a crevice tool attached to a strong vacuum cleaner. Or, if the cleaner hose is small enough, use it
without the crevice tool to suck up any big, bad stuff.

Also, make sure the condensate drain for the air conditioner isn't plugged with dirt. If the water can't drain well, it will cause a moldy smell and
may overflow onto the carpet inside the car.

Drop the glove box and see if there is a cabin filter installed. Is it full of aged dead tree debris ?

Or it may not have a filter, either way, dump a can of LYSOL through the HVAC via the opening for the filter, and let if coat the evaporator core. Do this out
side with windows & doors open, LYSOL has a tendency to be overpowering to the senses.
