I ordered a new EGR Solenoid just as a cover my bases thing since I had eliminated blockages in the vacuum lines and the EGR valve itself as the issue. So I
went out and pulled the egr Solenoid off and hooked up 12v to it. I could hear it click so I thought maybe under load or something like that, it was failing.
I got the new EGR Solenoid in...

Well Im content to drive the thing as it is, it just bugs me that the check engine light is on so if anything else should happen to pop up I'll have no
idea its there.

I know there is no blockages in the vacuum lines. I know the EGR Valve works and when you apply a vacuum to it, it doesnt leak down. I know the EGR Solenoid
works, at least with a voltage source applied to it (I didnt apply a vacuum to it at the time, but I have no reason to suspect its bad at this point as both of
the ones I have do the same thing). I know the vacuum lines are hooked up exactly as the diagram shows with the exception of the A and E ports on the throttle
body which I had to swap in order to get the idle smoothed out.

So the question seem to be now, how can I test whether or not the PCM is sending the low reference? Or how can I force the PCM to send the low reference while
in my driveway? If I can eliminate the PCM as the culprit then I can focus on wiring and connections which...

Hmmm ... just thinking aloud.
The ECU might feed a low current test signal through the solenoid coil at all times as supervision. That way, it could tell if the coil was open or there was a
problem in the circuit, like a bad connection or a bad ground. This supervisory signal might be on the order of only a few milliamps at 12 volts as a way to
check everything, but wouldn't allow enough current to operate the solenoid. If you test only voltage, you wouldn't know if the coil was actually
called on to operate. A bad connection might let a supervisory current to pass but wouldn't let the load of the coil to operate. That way, you wouldn't get a code that the circuit was bad (it would supervise) but you would get a
code that EGR flow was low.

Hmmm, so if I understand correctly then, the only two possibilities is that either the PCM is not providing the ground (seems unlikely that one circuit in the
PCM would go bad and there not be other issues) or either Im not getting enough vacuum to trigger the switch?

According to the official Hyundai ETM, solenoid is hot at all time key is on, and PCM provides duty cycle ground to close the solenoid valve.
I just had a 4 cyl the other day with a P-0401, ran with the solenoid as all else worked as it should when bench test (vacuum valve hold 7",, and EGR
valve open with 7" vacuum, and stay shut with 1" vacuum).

Driving with vac gauge attached in the valve' vacuum line, it only operates sporadically under decell or steady steep uphill travel.. does not operate when
standing on the pedal, funny system..

Key on should be with in 0.2volt of source voltage, and same for engine running (charge voltage)

I got the new EGR Solenoid in and installed it but still had the same issue. So I proceeded to dig further.

I checked for 12v at the connector and it was there, when I started the engine, it would go up to 14v which was expected with the charging circuit running. So
I turned the engine back off but left the key in the run position so I would have the 12v at the connector. I connect the connector to the solenoid, no click.
