I have had a good look around the latest Santa Fe's (not driven one). I can honestly say that the general feel, interior quality, fit and finish are much
better than the 1st gen. I woul imagine that they drive really well too. I have mentioned before that my dad has just bought an i30 crdi and it really is a
fantastic car! The materials used are a lot better than the old santy, very quiet and refined.

I really haven't looked a the second gen SFs but, had I wanted another like vehicle, certainly would have. The SF 4WD just did not meet my needs so I opted
for an '08 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited which is a real stump jumper. That being said, the '02 Santy went straight to the Hyundai dealer two months ago and
was exchanged for a beautiful '09 Elantra under the CFC program. Couldn't be happier with my fourth Hyundai.

Dave...
I'm sorry to hear your experience was negative but I have to ask you a few things based on your post. I can't believe you didn't even drive the car
as it is light years ahead of the original Santy in terms of feel and performance. I drove one when they first came out three years ago and was very impressed.
Quieter, better fit and finish, almost no body roll, and more than respectable performance. Not really sure where you got a 'cheapening' of materials
opposed to the SM Santa Fe; I love mine but some of the plastic is clearly tinny and cheap and in some cases, the top color finish is peeling away. There is
real leather with grain and tuck in the new Santa Fe, not a material that looks and feels suspiciously like vinyl.

One final observation involving this line:
Having bought a beautiful car (Daewoo Nubira) from a company what went under, don't want to do it again.

Have you paid attention AT...

interior appeares to have been "cheapened" over the years... just didn't seem as upscale as the older ones. Could have been 'cause we checked
out a base model as opposed to the top of the line. The sales people didn't seem friendly or energetic either, like they could care less. Ended up getting
the Honda instead.

We've decided to keep the '03 for at least another year, let the economy shake out the has-beens and weak dealerships/brands. Having bought a beautiful
