I have a 2.7 and it will tow up to 2400kg. I reckon an MGB won't be above a ton, so easy peasy. Use the lower gears to slow when going downhill rather than brakes, so that the brakes don't overheat on long gradients.

Hi everyone! Long time, no see. I've been so busy on the Miata forums that I don't get here very often. We haven't yet towed the MG down from MA, but we do have a new rescue pug Cooper

Since the last time I was here, we traded the 06 Sonata in for a 10 Mazda3. Thought about getting the Speed3, but it wasn't as much to drive as my Speed Miata. We've also taken to autox our Miatas now and are thinking about heading out to Nationals next year in Lincoln, NE. So, I'm back here to ask another question about towing. We have the 3.3 2007 and were thinking about using that as our tow vehicle to bring our autox Miata out to Lincoln. We would want a regular trailer not a dolly. Is this doable?

Thanks again!

Kate,
I towed a Escort Sedan on a dolly from Vegas to Kansas City. I have a 03 2.7 with a 2" Hidden Hitch Class 3.5. Only recommendation I have is to get a
locking pin that tightens in the receiver. It keeps the darn thing from banging. On a steep grade at the 13k foot level the 18 wheelers told me I was #1 on
their way around but other than that, piece of cake. Gas milage went down to 16 average from 26 on the highway. If you use a dolly, you will want to get the
car as close to center on the pivot pads as you can so it tracks better.
Enjoy the ride,

Towing an old MGB with dolly would be like you pulling a red wagon, MGB don't weigh anything.. With a 2.7 or 3.3, don't see any real work out involved.

Kate, good to hear from you again...how are the pups? We have a new red merle Australian Shepherd pup that will be five months this coming Sunday.

You probably have the 3.3L on the 2007 right? While I've not driven one I know they have a lot more juice than my former '02 with the 2.7L with which I
towed my '66 Mustang on a full trailer from Alabama to Arkansas. Your much lighter MGB and a dolly should be a snap. Just make sure the MGB is towable
(remove driveshaft for rear wheels on ground or tow backwards with steering wheel tied down or something along those lines).

Have fun in New England on Turkey Day.

Regards,

Now that I've caught you all up, I do have a question about towing and to be honest don't want to have to search around (tried searching for my past
posts and that didn't even work). Believe it or not, my husband has an MGB that has been up in a storage barn in New York State since about 2000. We are
thinking about bringing it down to Maryland when we go up to visit his family in MA for Thanksgiving. The main thing is he...
