After reaching 55,000 miles a month or so back I noticed my 3.5L 2004 baby was losing about 1-2 MPG in mileage. Everything else seems fine, although it does run a little rough from a cold start in the morning, tends to pulsate a little until I drive it for a while, then the engine idles more smoothly. I'm at 58,000 miles now.I'm thinking it's the fuel filter needing to be replaced, since the manual says it should be replaced after 52,500 miles and I've been following every other...

Something else you can try is adding some fuel line cleaner. I just added some called "Seafoam". My 2005 3.5 only has 26,800 miles. It was idling a little ruff. I added a can of seafoam and now it idles a lot smoother and has better acceleration .I got mine at Wal-Mart.

So you're thinking it's all the spark plugs? I'm surprised they would start fizzling out too before the 60,000 but meh, I'm stupid when it comes to cars.

I would advise going ahead and replacing the plugs. They come OE equipped with platinum plugs (Champion or NGK).. Kind of a joke when I take NGK out and parts gives me Champions.. Do yourself a favor, and go find a set of NGK Iridiums, nice upgrade.. Do the (3) wire spark plug wire set while it is all apart, use the Hyundai set there.

Look carefully at the (3) coil bidies on the front back, see where the steel stacked plates pass the coil body, look at the plastic and see if it has a large white/grey dis-coloartion spot... If so, the coils is trying to arc out to ground... The coils is $$$, so wait till you get a MIL for an 0302, 0304, 0306 before spending money on the coils.

I will lean on 1 bank of plugs having the gaps burnt open a bit and giving you a "bumpy" feel about the idle/accelleration (load).

There is a throttle program for the 3.5 Santa Fe for improved throttle response feel.. wont do anything for mis-fire from aged ignition parts.
