Life's tough. Can you stand it?

For anybody who has been in the healthcare profession, this will be significant: We're waiting for The Joint Commission to visit. They have to be here by the end of the year.

The Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO, or The Joint Commission) is an inspection and accreditation firm that inspects every aspect of a healthcare provider, be it a hospital, nursing home, "doc-in-the-box," or whoever. They check how the doctors do things, the nursing staff, housekeeping, maintenance, administration, and everything else you can think of. They can be tough, but if they don't approve of what you do you might as well shut down.

We've got our act together at UAB Highlands, so we aren't really worried. We want them to come since the hospital has looked like somebody kicked an anthill with everybody running around, spiffing up the place and all. It's kind of like having a case of food poisoning. You just want to go ahead and throw up so you can get it over with and feel better in the morning.
