I talked to Hyundai about the timing belt, they said approx. $750 and water pump is not needed due to easier location without removing timing belt in the future. A local shop said $73 with water pump and should be done at this time due to location. Price will include a timing belt kit, water pump and anti-freeze. I'm sure the dealer will mentioned other items due at 60000 mi like transmission fluid change and the price will go up. I think the local shop can handle this job, but Hyundai has the trained mechanics, but somebody is not telling the truth. Any thoughts or comments? AJCFOREST

The 2.7L is a piece of cake to install the timing belt. We dont usually replace the water pump at 60, they seem to hold out real well as long as they have clean coolant in the system all the time.

If he suggests additional items, you can simple say no if you don't think it's necessary. I would prefer the dealer who is more familiar with your vehicle. I'm in the Vancouver BC area and the pamphlet I have lists the replace timing belt at $311.03 for the 2.7 engine. The pamphlet is a little old, but I recall seeing a price at my local dealer in the $400 range. So $700USD seems quite high. My Santa Fe is a 2006 with 71,000 kilometres on it so I'm thinking about getting it done or trading it in. I'm looking at the 2010 Santa Fe 4 cylinder 6 speed automatic, and the GMC Terrain 4 cylinder 6 speed aotomatic (assembled in Canada). Has anyone tried these vehicles and have any recommendations? I have a 2004 2.7l Sante fe with 68,000 miles. I'm not even thinking about changing it. Dealer wants $1000 for belt, water pump. Beleive me, if they say 60,000 mile then start worring at 90,000 miles. And just in case it snapped, big deal, I'll buy another new car. Mine is only worth about $3,000 anyway so why pay $1,000 when at that milage you know other expensive parts will start to go. P.S. I love the Santa and NEVER had any problems with it.

I had mine done in March and for just that I believe it was right at $400. Santa Fe -- It doesn't get any better than this! Posts: 409 (05/28/10 08:49:50) Moderator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Remove this ad Thats about $90 less than what I have in our price guide... we swap the old drive belt for new when re-assemble, you pay for the part, as we need somethng to re-install. We usually add approx $90 on top also, so we dont need to call and wait for you to return call if we find tensioner leaking... if it ok, then you happy the cost of repair is $90 less than what we told you.
