I have a 2002 GLS and just had the sub frame replaced under the recall.
What I thought was creaks due to age of the santa fe and possibly needing a front end alignment all went away after the sub frame was replaced.
The dealer had it all day, they said they had a hard time removing the rusted bolts and took about 6 hours.
Not sure what was involved when I brought it in, I asked the service manager and he showed me the part. It's a U shaped section of metal that looks like a frame just a little less wider than the vehicle and mounts underneath the front end to ( I think) the main frame.
I was told this also has something to do with the wheels mounting to the vehicle.
Does anyone know if a wheel alignment is part of the job, or needed after this type of work?
Just wondering because it really rides smooth now. No more front end shimmy and everything feels nice and tight.
Prior to this work , they told me I had a small leak in the transmission oil cooler and it wasn't covered under warranty. I do notice a small reddish drip on the ground after being parked several hours and I can see it is wet when looking down by the grill with the hood up.
Their price $527--they said a lot of labor is involved. They need to remove the front bumper. I said some other time.
I wonder if they had to remove the front bumper to replace the sub frame? When I looked under neath to see the new sub frame, all those bumper bolts seemed nice and clean as if they were recently touched
If they did have to remove the bumper, they didn't volunteer that info to help reduce cost if I wanted to get the oil cooler replaced at the same time.
I can see the oil cooler through the grill, it's small and appears to have two small diameter hoses with clamps connected to it and two bolts at diagonal corners holding it in place.
If that's all there is to it, I'm sure I can replace it--after removing the bumper with the nice clean bolt heads.
Any body have any comments on the oil cooler?
