Here is the second part of the pictures. http://cid-02351e6f99a52e...5&isFromRichUpload=1
The second part of the trip is over the Trinity Hwy. to Willow Creek the home of Big Foot and back. We didn't find Big Foot but the trip was beautiful and fun. The rest of the afternoon we spent driving around Arcata Ca. and Eureka Ca. looking at the homes and bay on which is called the Somoa Jetty.
The next day we drove to Garberville Ca. and took a trip to down to Shelter Cove. The trip was crazy as the road was very bad and very twisty. The locals drove it like they were racing and all I was able to drive was 25 to 30. The car over heated a little and the trip was not worth making. We drove back to Garberville and then drove up through the Avenue of the Giants which goes through the Redwoods and fell in love with this area all over again. This area used to have 1,950000. acre's of Redwoods and Douglas Fir. It now is down to 83,000 which 50,000 is Fed owned and 13,000 is private.
While we were in the visitor center there is a restored truck in which Charles Kellogg made in 1917 to bring notice to the importance of preserving the area. (worth looking up) It is made from 1 redwood log and the inside is of curly redwood. http://www.google.com/sea...rles+kellogg&spell=1
Finished with a trip to Scotia Ca. and took a look at the in. The whole town was once owned by the Pacific Lumber Co.
Wed. we drove the Lost Coast Road out of Ferndale Ca. The town was really nothing, but a few homes were very pretty. The Lost Coast is about 15 -20 miles over a twisty , no guard rails, and sometimes a 1 way road which ended up on the most beautiful beach I think I have been on. After we left, the road back was just as bad (went a different way back) but did go through some beautiful country and to our surprise ended up back at the Avenue of the Giants and drove back to Eureka Ca.
That,s it for know. We are spending the day here in Eureka for a rest and then head out tomorrow for home by way of the Oregon Coast again. We hope to meet with Andrew in Portland Or. Sat. or Sun. if things work out.
