I want to replace the original speakers of the SFII.
Since I'm still waiting for my car (18 days left...) I was wondering if anybody knows the dimensions for replacement speakers that will fir in the new Santy? |

The replacement speaker size for all years is 6 3/4. They are often referred to as oversized 6 1/2.

Thanks for the info!
Now any suggestions on speakers that: a.) fit in the original space (SFII) b.) you really like the sound (quality over power for me) I'm looking at JBL speakers (2 component for the front and 2-way fror the back) |

I've always liked Polk personally. I have a pair of their DB components, and I couldn't be happier. This thread has more information on my entire set up.
In Dash DVD, Navigation, Subs, Speakers, Headrest Monitors I haven't replaced the rear speakers yet, but I'm probably going to put in another pair of the components when I get a chance, and the tweeters I'll aim towards the rear passengers, so as to not disturb the front imaging. JBL sound really good as well. If that's what you like, then go for it. Sound is so subjective; you have to go by what sounds most accurate to you. I had to drill new holes for the DB's so that they would fit properly, but it wasn't a big deal. It was through plastic and not metal, so it took me all of a minute. This will probably be the case for a Santa Fe from 2000-2006. I'm not sure on the 2007 models, but according to Crutchfield, they also take 6 3/4 speakers. |

Wow! a fellow Polk Audio fan.
I'm currently thinking about db6500 in front and db650 in the back. I'll be powering those with a Kenwood KAC-541. But I'll wait for the car first to see if the speakers fit. I have the rest of the audio/nav system already here and I also received the headrest with the 9" monitors I bought on e-bay - they are huge!!! |

That sounds like a good speaker set up. I'm sure you will like it.
I also have a Kenwood deck and have been very happy with Kenwood for years. I'm sure you will like yours too. The 9" headrest monitors are monsterous. Everyone who's been in the back on trips loves them. |

Little update: the polk audio db6750 and db675 fit in the original plastic spacer of the European(?) SFII.
I basically took out the original speakers and replaced them with those. The holes matched perfectly. Only difference was the db speakers are a little wider below the rim so I sanded away like 2 milimeters from the original plastic spacer. I could have also fitted the tweeter in the original space but I decided to flush mount them in the same location - it's actually the only visible sign that I exchanged the speakers.

I like the way the tweeter looks. How about a close up, and more importantly, how do they sound?

Re: Speakers and Speaker Related Questions

hehe, I like the way you think!
They sound great. In all honesty the new Speakers do need a certain volume to achieve their best, but we are not talking very loud either. The car is just so quiet that at the lowest possible level they sound good, but not great (much better than the original speakers). Open the volume a couple of notches (2-3 steps on the DDX6029) and they come into their own! I'm really happy with them right now and they are not even broken in yet - something all polk audio speakers are famous for needing. Here's the best picture of the installed tweeter that I have at the moment: ![]() I've added also some pics about the speakers installation here: www.cikava.com/gallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=Mod Read the coments below the pics, they should explain the pics. P.S. More pics of the car: www.cikava.com/gallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=My_Santy |

Well, they are componants, which usually need an amp to sound their best. I'm surprised they sound so good just being powered off the head unit. Just wait until they are broken in. They sound real good.
The pictures look great. |

Re: Speakers and Speaker Related Questions

You are absolutely correct about the amp! They need one - and I have a 4 channel Kenwood amp in the trunk
Even though I don't listen to music loudly the amp just handles the peaks better. And I specially love the fact that I can monitor the voltage, current, temperature and fan speed of the amp on my head unit. |

Wow, I hadn't seen that. The amp looks very nice. I've got to invest in a better one soon. I have an old Sony amp. It still does the job, but I want something with more power and better sound.

What Sony do you have: a Xplod or a Mobile ES model?

Re: Speakers and Speaker Related Questions

I think my amplifier is pre-Xplod. I bought it back in 1997.
It's a Sony XM-504X. It's a 4 channel amp. 50 watts per channel RMS. ![]() This is the best picture I could find of it online. If you need me to, I can run out and take a picture of it. |

Re: Speakers and Speaker Related Questions

No, that picture is fine. Sony's Mobile ES series was the high point of their line's history. If it had been one of those, I would have wondered why you would ever replace it.
Unfortunately, Sony phased them out and came out with the xPlod models. Same is true of their home audio equipment; the ES models were on the level of the higher end brands, but they never were able to compete Denon, Onkyo, etc... |

Re: Speakers and Speaker Related Questions

I never had the opportunity to hear the Mobile ES or home ES lines. This amp is pretty decent. It was the best that I could afford back in 1997. It's still going strong almost 10 years later, so I think that says a lot. Sound quality has improved some since then, so I'm looking for something with a little more power and better sound. I'm really impressed with the Kenwood amp I have running my subs, so I want to get a Kenwood for my main speakers as well.
I agree with you about Onkyo. That's what I have for my home theater system and it sounds incredible. |

Hey MM did you install the component tweeters in the same spot as the origional ones? If so do you have any pics of them? I have the same set of polks but I don't want to wreck the trim triange they are in by screwing up the install.
thanks |

Hey if you read my post above I asked the same question but with more info from me in the: In dash navigation section of Audio video. Metal Messiah has done some of what I want to do so I posed the question there.
thanks |

the sleigh - Sorry it's taken me so long to reply.
Yes, I did use the same stock locations for the tweeters. I didn't do any cutting, I just stuck them in the current location and used a piece of the foam inside the triangular encloser and some black electrical tape to hold it in place. I can show you a picture of it, but you can't see the tweeter, as it is hidden behind the grill. Let me know if you need me to snap you a picture anyway. |
