Keyless Remote for 2005 Santa Fe |

Does anyone know how to program a keyless remote for a 2005 Santa Fe? I bought the transmitter off of ebay, and just got it. Is it worth paying the dealer $60.00 to program?

Driver side near steering column I believe, you gotta look hard to locate it.

I got the remote working.. LOL I took it to the dealer, gave them a sob story about how its been giving me trouble lately, then it stopped working all together (little did they know I got it off ebay 2 days ago). So the kind young lady said no problem, ill reprogram it for free

Pretty cool, but it only would have taken you about a minute if that long to do it yourself.

Hiya
Bought my brand new remote from ebay for 12. Just done the programming procedure myself and it all works a treat! I tell you what though, it's a real pain in the butt doing it on a UK version: because the steering wheel is on the other side they have had to mount the alarm module upside down I think so the switch that you change from off to set and visa versa is in the most akward place possible and you can't see it at all. I had to find the switch by touch alone All working now though. Took me about 10-15 minutes including the time for the blind search for the switch! |

On the U.S. models you can't really see it either, but there were some pictures on the forum a while back that showed how to do it, so I had an idea of where it was, and was able to do it by touch alone as well.

Can someone help me find the remote transmitter? I looked under the dash on the driver's side with a mirror and flashlight, but could not find it. Do you really have to remove the lower dash panel as the instructions say?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks. |

No you don't have to remove the panel (although it is easier if you do) but the remote transmitter is quite difficult to see because a lot of the other wires round there hide it. I found it just by feeling for the switch on the side of it.

I'll try feeling around for it but in the meantime could you tell me if it's by the fuse panel, or under the steering wheel, or basically, where is the best place to start feeling for it?

I would suggest putting the drivers seat aas far back as it can go and stick your head within the foot area is at to visually see the unit. Felling your way would not be a good approach. You really can't miss it since the unit has a handle like thingy on its side.

Well I just did it. Some notes to help others (by the way I have an '04):
1) The receiver module is right behind the fuse box - if you crawl under the dash look for the small box with the switch on it that says "OFF" and "SET". I didn't see the antenna thingy hanging down. And I think the words are upside down. 2) The little switch lever is best moved by a small screwdriver, since it is recessed. Just move it over to "SET" - you don't have to have the ignition on by the way (I had it off with the key out of the ignition). 3) Then push the lock button (or I guess unlock will work too) on your new remote keyfob. ALSO, you need to do the same thing with your old remote keyfob, while the switch is in SET. I guess it forgets the old one once you move it to SET. (I found out by trying to use the old one after setting the new one and it didn't work anymore.) So basically program all your keyfobs at the same time while the switch is in SET, even your old ones that were already working. 4) Move the switch back to OFF and you're done! I found a remote keyfob for about $15 online and had a key made at the hardware stock for about $1.50. Good luck! |

I wish I had read this thread first...
p211.ezboard.com/fhyundai...=799.topic It seems my 05 Santa Fe is lacking the set/off switch. At least I didn't try taking the etacs out to inspect it further!!! |

I followed the instructions on my 2004 Santa Fe but could not see nor feel any such recessed switch. Also, the only discernible component was the antenna,
which mounted to the side body and did not appear to connect to the ETACS as shown in the diagrams at hmaservice.com. I felt around for it a few times for
about 30 minutes in total. It would seem more cost effective to buy a remote online and tip the tech to program it next time you have it serviced. Apparently
they can do it in about 30 seconds using the handheld diagnostic device. The difficulty of this mod should be adjusted up a few levels so as not to
misrepresent the apparent ease of self-service. I do appreciate the availability of this information and pointers.

It should be noted that the switch was dropped sometime during the 2004 model year run. Mine is a May 24, '04 build and does NOT have the switch.
