Nice work Doug. Question for you though; what wire harness are you attaching the LED to? Is yours the newer model that has all of the window switches lit at night?
I would like to mount LEDs to the underside of the curved portion of the door vents but there would not be a light harness in each door as only my driver's window switch is lit. I'll likely just get my power from the power window switch. |

Hey congo, you read my mind.
I've seen these clip on type leds on www.Motorcraft.co.kr (korean site) that you can place on the rear lights (link # 12 below) as well as door leds on the underside (link # 9 below) that might be what you are thinking of doing. I wanted to do the same for the rear side doors (the front ones already have lights that turn on when the door is opened but not the rear ones. The links below are from www.Motorcraft.co.kr which has a DIY section. MotorCraft.co.kr main page 1 MotorCraft.co.kr main page 2 |

I think the guys who did the wiring in those pages should attend the "Congo School of Wire Harness Management"

Yes yes yes send plane ticket i'll get my tools together, we can soon have all the extra lights you want installed, probably only take me a few months (I take it i'll have to stay in a hotel) 4 star please..HeHe. Congo99 Well mines a 2002 model registered June and all switches do light up. I presume you want to light up your window switches from above?. The wiring harness is photo No6 and it shows how many wires are in all doors except the drivers, as that has a few more for operating other windows and mirrors. I would check out how many wires are in yours as they may be there. But all window switches must have the abillity to be lit up. I don't think they would mould different switches as it costs money. Twospirits If you find a solution to the missing rear door red lights im interested Doug |

hey Oni,
for some reason that doesn't surprise me that you did most of the mods Hey congo Quote: too funny. hey doug In the list I provided of that korean site in # 9, it shows adding leds on the underside of the door trim so that when you open up the door it lights up. I might try something like that but also add a light like the one in # 12 but in red that is bigger for the side of the door. This way when it opens any car behind me would see that a door is opened. Even though that mod is for a diferrent vehicle, I'll just have to get the parts (leds and side light) and then look in the electrical manual and figure out how to do it. I'll tell you this much it won't be anytime soon with these Polar Ice Caps tempartures. |

Re: santy blue | ||

TS,
Putting lights in the rear doors will likely mean having to run wiring from one of the other interior lights. The easiest way may be to feed a wire from the interior dome light. On my 2K2 here in Canada, I have the red lights in the front doors but they are not functional. When I had the door panel off, the wire harness was sitting there waiting to be hooked up so I will have to get the socket and bulb to make them active. Just another cost cutting measure by Hyundai to keep it under a certain price point I guess. |

Hey congo, I already did this. Also bought the red lense. They work like a charm.

Sure, I'll post some pics. I was talking about the front door curb lights, though, in case you thought I was talking about the rear doors.

mastrv,
Did you get the red lenses at the dealer? And if so, how much were they? Are you in Canada? |

Re: Mods galore | ||

I'm located in Toronto but I occassionally drive down to Buffalo. I actually pre-ordered these from a dealer in the States and then drove down to get them. I found part numbers and dealer through the Hyundai USA site. Start here:
/dcsonline.hyundaidealer..../index.jsp I had to buy the lense and the bulb assembly that plugs into the connector in the door panel. I also bought the cabin filter at the same time. Here are the part numbers and prices in US dollars: 92632-26000 LENS-DR LAMP LH 2.38 92642-26000 LENS-DR LAMP RH 2.38 92631-26000 BULB ASSY-DR LAMP LH 3.51 92641-26000 BULB ASSY-DR LAMP RH 3.51 Order Totals $ 11.78 Adds a nice touch. I would have paid Hyundai an extra $12 to have them do this at the factory. Oh well. |

Re: Mods galore | ||

Damn, Hyundai OEM parts that are actually cheap!!
Mastrv, how were those door lights finished off before you added the lenses? Was there just a molded plastic corner on the door or what? |
|||

Re: Mods galore | ||
|
It was just a grey plastic insert shaped the same as the red lense.

Re: Mods galore | ||

Thanks for that mastrv. I'll see if these are available in Canada, or did you try that avenue?
My closest US dealer is Watertown, NY - about 2 hours away. |

Re: Mods galore | ||

I tried that but parts weren't available through the dealer. They weren't even in the system. Couldn't hurt to try, though.

Re: Mods galore | ||

It just amazes me that there are little differences between the US and CDN versions. The Canadian GLS is "almost" the same as the US version LX....just small differences we find all the time. Guess it's just what the various importers want...$$$ issue I guess. Seems to me that red door lens wouldn't cost anymore than the plastic cover they used.

Re: Mods galore | ||

Coming from a supply chain management and manufacturing background, I think it would cost more to have the two different assemblies. You have to order, stock, and handle two diffeent part numbers as well as have a different setup when assembling the door panel. Doesn't make sense to me.
