Rsselsheim/Geneva, 28 February, 2006 With the Genus concept vehicle, Hyundai is taking a preview on future European customer demand in the D-segment in combining the sporting dynamism of a coupe with the versatility of a traditional wagon. The Hyundai European Design Centre, located in Rsselsheim near Frankfurt, defines a new premium vehicle concept.

Thomas Brkle, Hyundai Chief Designer Europe, explains the benefits of the Genus concept: The dynamic five-door concept blends roominess and comfort with elegance and practicality. The Genus challenges the traditional compromise of vehicle choice faced by demanding modern lifestyles. It offers space and comfort, similar to a traditional wagon, but has an elegant, dynamic exterior. The Genus thus provides the answer to emotional desires and practical necessity.

Capability

The Rsselsheim design team developed the Genus as a D-segment vehicle that is appealing to many target groups. Thus, with its multi-use concept the Genus can be used for work, extensive shopping tours, family holidays as well as for numerous free time activities.

A long wheelbase, reduced front and rear overhangs and a wide stance enable increased interior comfort and loading capacity without compromising the fundamental proportions inherent to a coupe.

For maximum versatility, the floor features an integral hatch which can be lifted to reveal a retractable bench seat. The bench extends out to rest over the trunk sill and together with a sliding deck that is concealed in the bumper, it forms a multi-use outside seating area. The sliding deck can also be used separately for transportation of bicycles and other sports equipment.

Due to an inset B-pillar, the side windows form a continuous line. They are fully retractable and together with a large panoramic glass roof enable multisensorial experiences normally associated with coupes and cabriolets.

The medium-size wagon is powered by a 2.2 litre Common-Rail Diesel engine (CRDi) and equipped with a 5-gear automatic transmission for a dynamic, yet comfortable and economic ride. The 4WD underlines the sporty character of the Genus.

Exterior Design

The formal language of the purist concept has been defined by the free-flowing form of a wave. Expressive front and rear blend in a harmonious fusion through a constantly evolving extruded body, painted in metallic champagne.

The face is defined by a hexagonal mouth taking up the whole front like the air intake of a fighter plane, where all surfaces start around it and develop into the body side. The jewel-like swept-back headlamps are similar to birds eyes that sit on the flanked side of the truncated triangular shaped front end.

Strongly looking A-pillars are firmly routed in the sculpted bonnet producing a flight of an arrow section, which shoots towards the front grille.

The flowing silhouette of the car has a sleek cab forward configuration with a tapering roofline dropping dramatically away at the rear. Uninterrupted negative shoulders connect the slanted narrow greenhouse onto the tall body, giving it almost coupe-like attributes.

The interplay of the shoulder line between the front and rear lamp is reminiscent of a silk cloth draped over the string of a bow which is fixed under tension at both ends.

The panoramic side glass is chopped by the clamshell tailgate. The shut lines of the tailgate orbit around the rear glass producing a ring structure, which doubles as the D-pillar. This element, which intersects the rounded tail, is held in place by the tear drop shaped rear lamps.

Interior Design

The interiors visual forms mimic the continuous flowing nature of sand dunes. Vast surfaces seemingly sculpted by gently flowing wind, generate tension and dynamism whist retaining a sensitive fluidity. The focal point of the interior is the elegantly contoured instrument panel combined with the floating frame of the foldable centre stack that conceals the blue illuminated menu-screen.

Vast swathes of natural aubergine leather and contemporary silk-like reflective textile drape over the primary surfaces, which contrast with light beige leather inserts. The free flowing sculpted form is complimented by intricate anodised metallic details such as the longitude air vents or instrument surround.

The Genus interior represents the concept of a versatile living space, a cocooning environment with a high beltline in which to feel safe and protected. In being surrounded by the rhythm of curved flowing volumes creating a sensory spirit, passengers will experience a relaxing environment.

The cosseting wave inspired form of the seats provides an exciting invitation for occupants. Seeking to encapsulate passengers, an integrated supporting shell flows in a serene wavelike form, which is repeated in a perforated graphic on the seat upholstery. The shell embraces the seats and forms a visual alliance from the centre console to the integrated armrest.

The wrap-around roll-bar with an integrated almond-shaped roof light separates the front from the rear passenger compartment. The individual rear seats slide forward and build a visual unit with the sliding two-layer trunk floor, providing a flexible wrap-around cargo space.

Two major new models are taking centre stage on the Hyundai stand at this weeks Geneva Motor Show, representing both key elements in its current major product initiative and a vision of the kind of vehicle that will be meeting motorists desires in the not-too-distant future.

SEVEN-UP FOR NEW SANTA FE

The all-new Santa Fe SUV, which is set to reach UK showrooms later this year, makes its first European appearance at Geneva. The larger dimensions of this second-generation model enable it to offer seven-seat accommodation a major advance for the Santa Fe range.

Passenger comfort and on-road handling have been improved, while the new styling is tailored specifically to appeal to European tastes. These qualities combine an impressive package, supported by Hyundais trademark quality, performance, reliability and style.

The new Santa Fe will be offered with an upgraded version of Hyundais top-performing 2.7-litre V6 petrol engine, plus a 2.2-litre common rail diesel with Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) for smooth power delivery and excellent fuel economy.

FIRST VIEW OF HYUNDAI GENUS CONCEPT

Genus is a new Hyundai concept vehicle that makes its world debut at Geneva. It is a premium crossover model, designed to bring together the sporting dynamism of a coupe and the versatility of an estate car.

Genus has been created by Hyundais European design centre in Rsselsheim, Germany, with styling inspired by the natural forms of waves and sand dunes. As a concept, it previews the type of vehicle Hyundai believes will respond to the developing customer tastes and expectations in the upper medium D-segment.

Journalists are welcome to attend the Hyundai press conference at the Geneva Motor Show, to be held on stand 6251 at 9.45am on 28 February 2006, when further information about the new models will be made available.

Introduction

Hyundais all-new Santa Fe, presented for the first time in both five and seven seat formats, is set to storm the UK SUV market.

Due to go on sale across the UK in mid-April, the launch of the all-new Santa Fe marks a further significant development in the history of Hyundai, the worlds seventh largest automotive manufacturer.

The Santa Fe was Hyundais first foray in the SUV segment when it was launched in 2001. Now the all-new incarnation is equipped to propel Hyundai to the forefront of the global SUV market in terms of style, performance, packaging and, crucially, quality and reliability.

The new Santa Fe marks a pivotal moment for Hyundai in its forward-looking efforts to elevate itself to become recognised as a manufacturer of high quality, desirable cars at an accessible price.

Sevens Heaven

While the five seat model will build on the enviable reputation of the existing Santa Fe, it is anticipated that the seven seat model, with its slick-operating, split-folding third row seats will make the biggest impact.

Capable of carrying seven passengers in total comfort, the seven seat all-new Santa Fe crosses the boundary between full-size people carrier and Sports Utility Vehicle to offer supreme practicality and go anywhere capability.

Thanks to strong engines, a sophisticated suspension set-up, including self-levelling rear suspension on seven seat variants, and an array of active safety features designed to enhance the driving experience, the new Santa Fe can perform with as much sporting prowess on the road as any car owner could wish for.

Ensuring the widest possible customer choice, Hyundai is offering every model in the Santa Fe range with the option of seven seats, at a premium of just 600 over the equivalent five-seat version (625 for entry-level five-seat GSI).

Managing Director of Hyundai Motor UK Ltd, Tony Whitehorn, said: "Hyundai has to date claimed a significant portion of the UK and European SUV market with its Santa Fe, Tucson and Terracan 4x4 models.

Exterior Design and Styling

Bigger all-round, the new Santa Fe clearly broadcasts Hyundais determination for its future models to appeal much more to the customers heart and soul.

At 1,725mm tall, (1,795mm including the roof rack standard on all UK Cars) new Santa Fe is 50mm taller than the outgoing model, it has grown in girth by 45mm to 1,890mm and, crucially for the clever stowable seven seat layout, it is 150mm longer at 4,650mm (CDX and CDX+ models featuring the two-tone bumper are 175mm longer overall at 4,675mm).

The greater overall length and wheelbase (increased by 175 and 80mm respectively) have enabled Hyundai to engineer a third row of seats that can easily be folded down for extra luggage space when not required.

International, contemporary styling has ensured it has grown into its new skin, with taut, attractive lines. And although engineered to be robust and rugged, its design is far from utilitarian: the bold wheel arches and coherent front and rear end treatments are strong on style and street presence.

At the front, the new grille emphasises the powerful character lines that flow down the bonnet from the A pillars. It also unifies the upper and lower body sections and brings together the dynamic angled sweep of the clear-lens light clusters, which themselves flow back neatly into the curve of the pronounced front wheelarches.

The front screen is relatively steeply raked, conveying a more car like appearance a quality thats also captured by the gently tapering side glass section and the angled D pillar.

The rear three-quarter view demonstrates the thinking that has refined every aspect of the exterior design. The extra length has allowed a more sweeping profile than before, with the wrap-around rear light clusters extending into the flared waistline. On higher grade models, the LED high-mounted stop light is neatly integrated into the rear spoiler, adding to the overall design harmony. The wide stance is indicative of exceptional control and road holding and the practical, deep-opening rear tailgate neatly rounds off the flowing style.

Interior Refinement and Comfort

Where the new Santa Fe is concerned, quality runs deep, emphasising the models sharp progress into the territory typically occupied by European premium SUV models, such as the Volkswagen Touareg, BMW X5 and Land Rover Discovery.

The cabin benefits from a modern, integrated design, finished in a tasteful combination of high quality materials. The new seating is designed for superior comfort, with additional head, shoulder and legroom for all on board.

The increased exterior dimensions translate into additional space, with, for example, 25mm extra legroom for the driver and an extra 84 litres of load space at the rear. Access is easier, too, with wider doors, a higher roofline and more space between the front and rear seats.

Keeping the cabin environment cool is no problem, thanks to dual zone climate control or air-conditioning, according to model grade. Furthermore, on models fitted with seven seats and climate control, those in the rear-most seats benefit from their own independent ventilation controls.

A high quality feel has been designed and engineered into every detail, from the location of the electric window controls, to the pleasing action of the rake adjust and telescopic steering wheel. Modern blue instrument lighting, a first for Hyundai, is easy on the eye and improves visibility while further raising the sense of refinement inside the cabin.

While style was paramount, sound ergonomics also shaped the design of the new centre console, for greater ease of use and additional storage spaces. On higher-grade models, the full leather interior creates a truly luxurious ambience, while all versions feature a fine wood grain finish on the dashboard.

A foot operated parking brake, meanwhile, as well as being practical, keeps the centre console area even tidier and less cluttered and leaves more room for storage.



Five and Seven Seats Variable Versatility

The new Santa Fe delivers new high levels of practicality, versatility and customer choice, thanks to its ingenious interior design and the choice of a five or seven seat configuration.

Significantly, whether choosing five or seven seats, the generous increase in rear load space is identical, with 969 litres available with all seats in place (and third row stowed on seven seater). And again, in both five and seven seat models, capacity grows to a massive 2,213 litres with all rear seats folded down. This is thanks to the flush folding third row seats, which stow invisibly into the boot floor.

While seven seat Santa Fe customers will have the obvious benefit of a third row of seats, five seat customers will find a substantial storage area beneath the boot floor where the seats would otherwise be stowed.

In-line with Santa Fes lifestyle appeal, this under-floor area is ideal for keeping equipment and clothing out of sight. It is a space where wet or dirty outdoor gear, for example, can be placed to avoid wetting or marking the boot space or other luggage or goods being carried.

As well as having a wider and longer boot, the new Santa Fe is easier to load and unload, thanks to a wider rear hatch and optimised loading height.

Torque on demand Four-Wheel Drive

Whereas the previous Santa Fe used a fixed four-wheel drive set up, the all-new Santa Fe employs a torque on demand system, similar to that in its smaller sibling the Tucson.

In normal conditions, drive is through the front wheels only. Electronic sensors monitor road and driving conditions and automatically engage all-wheel drive when required, to gain the best possible traction and maintain vehicle stability, working in conjunction with the vehicles other active safety systems, including ESP (electronic stability programme), ABS with EBD and TCR (traction control).

When conditions demand, four-wheel drive can be engaged simply by pushing the 4WD button on the front console. This locks all four wheels into permanent drive for better performance when travelling off-road or on low-grip road surfaces.

Active and Passive Safety

The new Santa Fe was designed from the outset to provide superior levels of active and passive safety. Central to this ambition was the creation of a highly robust and more rigid bodyshell, using extensive computer design techniques and crash simulations.

This has enabled strategic crumple zones and reinforcements to be built into the vehicle, which can absorb impact forces and direct them away from the passenger cabin should an accident occur.

In addition to the reassurance of four-wheel drive, the new Santa Fe comes fully equipped with the latest in on-road active safety systems, including: ESP (electronic stability programme) and ABS with EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution). Brake dimensions have also been increased, with ventilated 16 inch front discs and larger brake boosters ensuring powerful stopping power.

ESP, fitted as standard to CDX and CDX+ versions, uses a network of sensors to monitor different aspects of vehicle behaviour, such as deceleration, power input, yaw rates and wheel slippage. If it detects the driver is in danger of losing control of the vehicle, for example the onset of a skid through too much oversteer or understeer through a bend, it automatically intervenes, regulating power and braking to maintain stability.

All versions of the new Santa Fe are fitted with six airbags, (eight in the seven seat models) with driver and front passenger front airbags (the passenger airbag is now fitted with a cut-off switch), front side airbags and roof curtain airbags. On seven seat models the roof airbags extend through to the third row seats. Three point seatbelts are provided on all seats and, on higher-grade models, active head restraints are provided for enhanced protection against whiplash injuries.

Features and Equipment

Hyundai has designed an impressive equipment list for the new Santa Fe, which even from entry level provides a superb range of safety, comfort and convenience features.

Security has also been improved with all models featuring an immobiliser, deadlocks and remote central locking, with the addition of locking wheel nuts on alloys.

Worth noting, is that all UK Santa Fe models will feature roof rails with crossbars i.e. a roof rack as standard. This raises the overall height of the vehicle by 70mm.

GSI

Starting point is the GSI, which comes equipped with a full complement of front, side and roof curtain airbags and ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). It rides on bold 17-inch alloy wheels and has a host of quality exterior details including front fog lights, roof rails with a crossbar, body colour matched door handles and (electrically adjustable) mirrors and twin exhaust pipes. The remote central locking, alarm and immobiliser provide excellent security, while anyone suffering a puncture will be pleased to know a full size spare is provided rather than a space-saver.

Key features of the interior include air-conditioning, a factory-fit sound system with CD player, electric windows and height adjustable telescopic steering wheel. A wood grain finish on the dashboard adds to the high quality ambience.

CDX

The CDX builds on this specification with more sophisticated features that reinforce the new Santa Fes premium segment appeal. The comfort of all on board is addressed with dual zone climate control (with independent controls for third row passengers in the seven seat versions), 2-stage heated front seats and a full leather interior. The drivers seat is electrically adjustable and on those frosty mornings, a front screen wiper de-icer further aids rapid clearing.

An upgraded seven-speaker sound system is standard, featuring a six-disc CD autochanger and additional audio controls on the steering wheel. Cruise control and an auto-dimming rear view mirror with compass are also provided.

Enhanced safety and handling features on the CDX models include the Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) and active head restraints. Larger, 18-inch alloys and a rear spoiler add to the Santa Fes bold but stylish road presence.

CDX+

Owners of the top-of-the-range CDX+ versions will want for little, thanks to an all-embracing luxury specification. The on-board entertainment package provides both a premium hi-fi and a multimedia DVD package, ensuring no journey need ever be tedious again. The 10 speaker Infinity sound system features Logic 7 surround sound and an in-dash six-disc autochanger. Those in the back can enjoy the latest movies on DVD via a roof-mounted screen. The system is also compatible with Playstation and X-Box consoles.

Building on the CDX specification, the CDX+ also introduces Smartnav satellite navigation, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, a handy cool box in the centre console and electric adjustment for the passenger seat.

Incredibly these exceptional features add just 800 to the price tag, compared to equivalent CDX versions of the Santa Fe.

Engines and Transmissions

Hyundais advances in achieving premium quality and refinement are clearly witnessed in the powertrains engineered for the new Santa Fe. They deliver smooth performance with rugged reliability and good fuel economy.

Two power units are available: a new high-performance 148 bhp (150 PS) 2.2 litre VGT common rail diesel and a revised version of Hyundais renowned 2.7 litre V6 petrol engine, with power increased to a mighty 186 bhp (189 PS).

The 2.2 litre VGT common rail diesel engine is new to the Santa Fe in the UK and uses Hyundais cutting edge Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) technology for smoother power delivery, strong fuel economy at all engine speeds and better all-round dynamic performance. The high pressure common rail injection system improves response and control and also reduces engine noise and vibration levels.

Hyundai focused on reducing friction wherever possible to raise engine efficiency and smoothness, achieving significant advances by including a new low friction balancer shaft.

The four-cylinder 2.2 litre VGT diesel delivers a maximum 148 bhp (150 PS) at 4,000 rpm, but its character is defined by its prodigious torque, with a maximum 335 Nm (247 lb ft) available all the way from 1,800 to 2,500 rpm, ensuring exceptional pulling power. In terms of performance, it makes a quantum leap from the 2.0 litre diesel unit featured in the current Santa Fe with 0-62 mph despatched in just 11.6 seconds (12.9 automatic) and a maximum speed of 111 mph.

In spite of its strong performance credentials, the new diesel engine marks only a modest increase in carbon dioxide emissions compared to its 2.0 litre predecessor, with manual versions emitting 193 g/km. Likewise, fuel consumption is very respectable, with 38.7 mpg returned by manual models on the Combined Cycle.

The 2.7 litre V6 has always been a sparkling performer, but now brings more power to the Santa Fe than ever before. Equipped with Constantly Variable Valve Technology (CVVT), it enjoys a power hike from 170 to 186 bhp (189 PS), with maximum torque of 248 Nm (183 lb ft). This translates into 0-62 mph in 11.7 seconds and a top speed of 111 mph, with combined cycle fuel consumption of 26.6 mpg and CO2 emissions cut to 252 g/km.

With the 2.2 litre diesel engine, customers can choose from five-speed manual or newly developed five-speed automatic transmissions, while the V6 petrol is offered exclusively with a four-speed automatic gearbox.

The manual transmission adopts triple cone technology, which makes the unit more compact and provides quieter and more precise gearshifts. The new five speed automatic system has an ultra-flat torque converter with computer optimised blades and operates at a pressure calculated to promote operation thats more responsive to driving demands.

Both transmissions contribute to the new Santa Fes all-round improvement in performance, more positive driving feel and lower noise and vibration levels.
Suspension

Perfecting the suspension system has been a key consideration in the development of the new Santa Fe. The results of Hyundais engineering efforts can be appreciated in improved ride, handling and all-round suspension performance.

At the front, a new MacPherson strut design is used with optimally positioned, reverse L-shaped lower arms to provide superior steering wheel sensitivity and improved dynamic control. Suspension quality and performance are further enhanced by locating new, larger bushes between the front sub-frame and the suspension. And, by widening the caster angle, both straight line stability and all-round handling have been improved.

The revised multi-link rear suspension is a significant factor in the new Santa Fes dynamically superior, car-like performance. Driving feel and cornering stability have both been improved by using more rigid shock absorbers and setting them lower, while road noise intrusion has been reduced and ride and handling improved by relocating the trailing arm from the body to the rear cross member. The new system is also more compact, so intrudes less on the space in the rear of the vehicle.

Self-levelling Suspension for Seven Seat Versions

Seven-seat versions of the new Santa Fe feature a new self-levelling suspension system. This ensures a constant vehicle ride height, regardless of size of load on board or its distribution. The result is smooth, predictable suspension performance and enhanced vehicle stability, whether you are travelling alone or with a full complement of seven on board. The system uses no external power source, so there is no penalty in performance or fuel efficiency.

This system is ideal for towing, at which new Santa Fe also excels, being capable of towing a braked trailer weight of up to 2,200kg (2,000kg for automatic variants).

Unquestionable Reliability Record

Hyundai already has an enviable and unquestionable record when it comes to build quality and durability.

For example, in BBC Top Gear Magazines own 2005 reliability survey Hyundai was placed 6th overall, with a maximum available five star result. Not only that, but Hyundai boasted the lowest average repair cost and shortest time in the garage.

Meanwhile, in What Car?s 2005 J.D. Power and Associates Customer Satisfaction Index, current Santa Fe was placed 3rd in class, again above all European competitors.

Built in Korea for the UK market, at the worlds largest car factory, the new Santa Fe has been engineered to even higher standards, helping ensure even greater levels of refinement and reliability.

Strong Residual Values

The current Santa Fe model also already has the distinction of strong residual values. Industry monitors and RV analysts Glasss therefore predict the new Santa Fe will perform even more strongly.

Chris Smith, Cars Editor of Glasss Guide said: "Far from offering second-rate residuals, Hyundai has some class-leading values thanks to strong reliability records, increasing brand reputation and its unique five year warranty; and this is especially true in the SUV segment.

"Building on the foundations laid by the outgoing model, the new Santa Fe with the advancements in technology, engineering, equipment levels and in particular the seven seat option should achieve residual values that compete with the best in the market sector."

UK Pricing

The new Hyundai Santa Fe is launched in the UK as a 16 model range, with a choice of three trim levels, two engines and five or seven seat interiors.

Significantly in the diesel driven SUV segment, Santa Fe diesel and petrol variants are priced the same.

The 2.2 litre VGT common rail diesel is available with manual or automatic transmission, while the 2.7 litre V6 is offered exclusively as an automatic. CDX and CDX+ trim levels are available with both engines; GSI grade is available only with the 2.2 litre VGT unit.

The price structure works to a logical formula: CDX models add 1,800 (1,825 on five-seat GSI) to the price of equivalent GSI models and CDX+ versions a further 800. Automatic transmission is an extra 1,000, while there is a 600 premium for the seven seat variants (625 for five-seat GSI).

Five Year Warranty Explained

Helping the Santa Fe and other models maintain strong residual values in the UK is Hyundais unique and industry leading seal of quality, a five year, unlimited mileage manufacturer-backed warranty that is fully transferable from owner to owner.

Far from being simply a safety net for the owner, the five year warranty represents Hyundais fundamental confidence in the reliability of its cars. Notably, Hyundai remains the only manufacturer in the auto industry to offer customers such a long-lasting guarantee.

The fully transferable nature of the warranty means that if a customer decides to sell a properly maintained vehicle privately, even after three years for example, the vehicle is still protected by the balance of two years manufacturer backed warranty, which can be transferred to the new owner.

Service Intervals and Insurance Groups

New Santa Fe replicates all Hyundai service intervals in the UK at 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes sooner.

Insurance groups, meanwhile, will be announced nearer to the on sale date.

HYUNDAI POSTS STRONG SALES IN WEAK UK MARKET



Year-to-date sales volume up by four per cent in declining market

April sales hold steady as overall market drops nine per cent



The strength in depth of Hyundais model range is powering a market-beating sales performance for the brand. With the UK motor industry facing tough trading conditions, Hyundai has emerged as one of the nations top performers in terms of growth in sales volume.



Newly-released figures for new car registrations in April show that Hyundai has achieved a four per cent increase so far this year, compared to the same period in 2005. That contrasts with an overall decline in the market of six per cent, with a number of manufacturers suffering double-digit percentage drops.



Hyundais broad and growing vehicle line-up, backed by an industry-leading seal of quality five year, unlimited mileage, fully transferable warranty, is finding favour with motorists who are demanding more quality, choice and peace of mind for their money.



So far this year Hyundai has sold 13,622 new vehicles, against 13,058 for January to April 2005, claiming a 1.64 market share, up from 1.48 per cent market share to April in 2005.

CROUCH SET TO SCORE WORLD CUP DOUBLE WITH HYUNDAI

New Hyundai drivers will be praying England striker Peter Crouch can score a World Cup victory this summer because it could earn them a free car.

The car giant, and official FIFA World Cup 2006 partner, has pledged to help the nation celebrate a historic England win in Berlin on 9 July, by giving eleven owners their money back in a 250,000 give away.

If Sven-Goran Erikssons men win in Germany, anyone who buys a Hyundai between now and the end of the World Cup could qualify for a free car and it doesnt matter if they buy a 5,990 Amica City run around or luxury Santa Fe SUV worth 25,000.

Hyundai handed over the keys of their most spacious model the Santa Fe SUV to 6ft 7ins Liverpool forward Crouch, 25, yesterday to help him celebrate his World Cup call up.

On picking up his new Hyundai, Crouch said: "The Hyundai Santa Fe is just the perfect car for me. At 6ft 7ins it's not always easy to squeeze into sports cars or supercars. I need something a bit bigger but I still want a car that can turn heads and drives great. The Santa Fe fits that bill."

Thousands of Hyundai drivers will be hoping Crouch can score the goals that secure England their first World Cup success in 40 years and a bumper pay day.

"I'm delighted to be going to Germany for the World Cup," he added, "and I, along with the whole squad, will be doing everything possible to bring home the trophy this year. And with 11 free cars up for grabs if we do, fellow Hyundai drivers could have two reasons to celebrate this summer."

Hyundais Managing Director, Tony Whitehorn, said: "An England victory 40 years after their legendary 1966 success would be a momentous occasion for the country.

Hyundais World Cup radio campaign proves a winner

An inspired round of promotional activities held in conjunction with Virgin Radio for the two months leading up to this summers World Cup Final has highlighted Hyundais official association with the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Eight lucky winners walked away with brand new Hyundai cars as part of the campaign and 34 pairs of World Cup tickets were donated live on air, courtesy of Hyundai.

The Hyundai/Virgin Radio campaign included special editorials by voice of football Dominic Johnson and regular Hyundai-sponsored sports bulletins. Meanwhile, the Christian OConnell breakfast promotion, played live at Heathrow airport, saw winners jetting off to matches in Germany, while the generous Car Park Run and Ticket to Drive competitions, offered semi-final tickets and brand new Hyundai cars as prizes.

The campaigns most notable success was 10,606 people registering to take part in its activities breaking all previous records for the radio station.

Hyundai Motor UK President, Ken Lee was on hand to congratulate some of the lucky winners at Hyundai London, the companys flagship dealership.

FIRST OFFICIAL PICTURES OF HYUNDAIS C-SEGMENT CONCEPT

Hyundai has released the first pictures of its stunning Arnejs concept; the best clue yet as to what the companys all new C-segment car will look like when it arrives in the UK next summer. The Arnejs concept car will be on display at the Paris Motor Show later this month.

Designed at Hyundais European Research and Design centre in Rsselsheim, Germany, the Arnejs builds on design elements first seen in the Genus concept at Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. And it marks a further significant milestone in Hyundais development of a stronger brand identity.

The Arnejs, pronounced Ar-nez, will be formally unveiled at 17.30 on Hyundais stand, number 511 in Hall Three of the Paris Motor Show, on 28 September 2006...: -

Hyundai posts all time record September sales

* All time record September sales 7,263 units
* Hyundai volumes up 1.9 per cent year-to-date in a declining market

In a declining UK car market, Hyundai, the worlds sixth largest manufacturer, has recorded its highest ever September sales with 7,263 units sold on the new 56 plate.

This market-beating performance ahead of Seat, Skoda, Volvo and Saab - saw Hyundais sales increase by 5.47 per cent for the month compared to September 2005. The Amica city car, Getz supermini and award-winning Santa Fe SUV led Hyundais charge.

So far this year, Hyundai has sold 30,611 units, a 1.9 per cent increase over the same period last year. This growth in sales contrasts with a weakening market that has fallen 3.5 per cent over the same period.

Hyundai opens new european headquarters

New HQ marks significant step in European expansion plans

* 50 million Euro (34 million) state of the art new HQ
* Move allows expansion of European R&D centre

Hyundai has today opened its new European headquarters in Offenbach, near Frankfurt, Germany, the next step in the companys strategy to become one of the top automotive brands in Europe. The new headquarters will contain Hyundais European sales, marketing and aftersales divisions.

Crucially, the move allows for expansion of Hyundais nearby European Research and Design Centre at the companys former European headquarters in Rsselheim, Germany. The Rsselheim facility has been expanded to include additional powertrain facilities and a new design studio.

These investments, together with the companys first European plant in the Czech Republic, due to commence production in 2008, mean Hyundai will soon be able to plan, design and produce cars specifically for the European market, within Europe.

Tony Whitehorn, Managing Director of Hyundai Motor UK said: This clearly signals Hyundais rapidly growing presence in Europe. The UK is key to Hyundais European and global ambitions and this continued investment will further strengthen our presence in the UK market.

Hyundai getz a winner in 2006 greenfleet awards

The Hyundai Getz 1.5 CRTD has won the Transport for London Private Sector Award at the 2006 GreenFleet Awards. The Hyundai Getz had been put through a testing 30-mile journey across central London to win the award, finishing second in the 2006 GreenFleet Capital Fuel Challenge, hosted by the London Borough of Camden.

The Getz 1.5 diesel beat off three hybrids, two biodiesel engines and another diesel to come second overall in the economy drive event.

The results clearly demonstrate that a Hyundai diesel engine can be as economical as a hybrid engine if driven correctly. Of three Toyota Prius cars involved in the GreenFleet challenge, the Hyundai Getz 1.5 litre diesel beat two, using just 2.6 kg of fuel to complete the 30-mile course compared to 2.2 kg used by the first placed Toyota Prius.

Moreover, the Getz tied with the best performing Toyota Prius in terms of cost, coming in at just 9 pence per mile.

Spencer Freedman from GreenFleet said: This was a real world test, which highlights the environmental and cost benefits of choosing the right vehicle to get around London. The success of the Hyundai Getz demonstrates that clean diesel engines, if driven defensively, can be just as cost and fuel efficient as alternative fuelled vehicles.

HYUNDAI GEARS UP FOR A GREAT 2007
AFTER RECORD MARKET SHARE IN TOUGH 2006

Korean car giant, Hyundai, secured a record share of the UK car market of 1.52 per cent in 2006, selling 35,589 cars in a tough trading environment that saw the overall new car market decline by nearly four per cent (3.9%).

Now, Hyundai is gearing up for a great 2007, with the forthcoming launch of its all-new family of C-Segment cars. Codenamed FD, Hyundai will unveil its all-new C-Segment car to the worlds press at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

Based on the widely praised Arnejs concept, shown at the 2006 Paris Motor Show, the FD is a car designed for Europe. It is aimed at delivering significant volume for Hyundai across the continent and will be launched first as a five-door hatch across Europe in the summer, with a Wagon version to follow soon after.

Hyundai Motor Company will unveil its new European C-segment hatchback at its press conference at the Geneva Motor Show on Tuesday 6 March 2007. Codenamed FD, this will be the first ever car from the Korean manufacturer designed specifically for Europe.

In developing the FD, Hyundai focused on combining cultivated dynamics with sleek, sophisticated styling, generous equipment levels and up-to-the-minute safety package. The car is due to go on sale across Europe in the summer.

With the launch of FD, Hyundai will simultaneously introduce a new alphanumerical naming strategy for all its products going forward. In the past, product names have been chosen to express the values inherent in, or associated with, each individual Hyundai model. Now, however, Hyundai is taking a more holistic approach to its vehicle nomenclature.

The new nomenclature will display a clearer technology-orientation and be closely linked to Hyundais brand promise of Quality, Self-assurance, and Inspiring.

NEW HYUNDAI COUPE SIII A HIT WITH CUSTOMERS

Hyundais new Coupe SIII has performed as well in the showrooms as it does on the road, driving 07 March plate change sales of what is perhaps the Korean car-makers best known model to nearly double those of the previous years 06 March registrations.

With a completely new look and enhanced interior specification, the new Hyundai Coupe SIII, launched in late 2006, looks set to keep sales of Hyundais coupe model in top gear.

In March 2007 Hyundai sold more than 50 per cent (53%) more of its sports coupe model than the previous March proof positive that the facelift Hyundai Coupe SIII is a hit.

March Sales Champions
Sales of Hyundais multiple award-winning new Santa Fe continue to be strong and it is on track to become Hyundais second best-selling model after its perennial volume leader the Getz Supermini.

Available with seven seats and a strong, refined 2.2 litre diesel engine, as well as out-competing other large 4x4s in terms of value for money and specification, the new Santa Fe makes a valid and more flexible alternative to less stylish and more mundane people carriers.

Until 30 June the Santa Fe also comes with free accessories. The entry specification Santa Fe GSI comes with reversing sensors absolutely free, while customers choosing the high specification CDX or CDX+ gain reversing sensors and a styling kit, including running boards and wheel arch extensions.

Meanwhile, Hyundais perennially popular Getz Supermini continues to appeal, following a mid-life face-lift in late 2005. Getz sales were up more than 12 per cent (12.5%) in March and more than three per cent (3.3%) year on year.

With a range of dynamic yet frugal petrol and diesel engines, Getz is available in three or five-door format. And until 30 June the Getz is also available with three years servicing for just 99.
