I just traded up from a Mazda Protege to a 2001 V6 AWD.
On the Mazda I always used Kelly Pacemark Snowtrakker tires (a Goodyear brand) and I chose to do the same for the Santa Fe. I picked up 5 (one full spare) Snowtrakker 235/70/R16's at $122/tire at our local Coast Tire. They've always been one of the best tires i've driven on in the snow. The Snowtrakkers have an aggressive tread design with lots of channels to move snow out from under the tire. They're bigger than the OEM Longtrails that came on the Santa Fe (OEM - 225, Kelly's - 235) so they make the vehicle look a little more aggressive. They've also got white lettering which I personally like. I used the Wrangler Goodyear SilentArmor a couple of years ago ($190/tire) and I wouldn't buy them again. They were very expensive and not very good, considering they were supposed to be the "Lexus" of snowtires. I'll grab some pics for you in the next day or so and post them for you to see. ps: Where do you live? I'm in Nova Scotia, Canada so I know how fun snow can be. |

We've had our '03 since new, and have run Firestone Winterforce snow tires for the last 2 winters. Our SF is just front wheel drive, but with the snow tires, it's great. We're out in the country W of Edmonton, Alberta, so it's good to have winter traction. I had the tires mounted on cheapie "winter" steel rims, and have no complaints. I'll buy another set of these when they wear out.

Rigchaser,
The steely rims, are they Hyundai or did you pick up a generic set from a parts store that fits the Santy? |

Shouldn't you always buy the same size tires for the same size rims? Aren't you inflating your speed by putting slightly larger 235 tires on when they should be 225? (It's funny, I was just looking around on www.tirerack.com to see what's actually OEM and what non-OEM sizes were available.) Truck tires are crazy expensive... I look on CrappyTire.ca and to get Michelein X-Ices, they'll cost me $180/tire... Yikes. And that's without getting a spare set of steelies to put them on.

Since the Santa Fe Speedometer is incorrect anyway, i'm not too worried.
I did go back to 225's for my summer tires but the 235's are still in the garage for when the white stuff starts falling again. I can't wait. |

Your webpage doesn't work. I was really interested in seeing some pics of your tires. :)
