Vibrations at 100kph (update) |
Lead | |
|
Hi SF owners this is my first post , I`ve had my V6 GL AWD since February 2002 6000km on it so far , most of my driving was in the city (Montreal) , I have noticed an annoying vibration on my steering wheel and rear wheels when I reach 100k( about 63 mph ) so I took my SF to my dealer he had my wheels rebalanced and the problem was still there.I told my dealer what I saw in this forum regarding the drive shaft and he said that I was the first with this kind of problem , he concluded that the size of my tires caused this vibration (BFgoodrich P225/R70-16 ) as if I would be the only one with this size??? so I did not go for that BS and wrote a letter to Hyundai Canada and guest what they had the same answer my dealer gave me , so I wrote an other letter to BFgoodrich regarding this issue so they kindly referred me to a near by authorize dealer so they could verify my tires and replace them if this is the problem.I will let you know as soon as this situation is corrected .

The vibrations you mentioned could be to the tires or the AWD visious coupling at the rear. I highly doubt it could be the tires as the stock tires are 225/70R16.
It could also stem from the drive shaft. In any case make sure you explore the mechcanical aspect of it. Regards Jude |

Hi all last week I finally got an answer from my Hyundai service manager regarding my mysterious vibration...
He had a visit from a hyundai canada technician and they were as puzzled as I was , this is the first complain they have received from a SF owner regarding vibrations , nevertheless they did all kind of tests , they tried an other SF and that one did not vibrate at 100 km , it was a 2WD , they took an AWD and then they noticed a vibration in the steering wheel , after trying a few they notice some did vibrate and other didn't .According to my service mng it could be a SF thing which I dont agree because hyundai as to do something to resolve that problem . At my next visit my dealer has offered to take my SF for the whole day and try to repositioned the drive shaft or change it if necessary and also change the oil in the transfert case at no cost, because they really want to find where this vibration is comming from.Lets hope that this will work so I could enjoy my SF again .Once again as I go along I will keep you up to date Best regards Marc. |

Hello, I hope I can help you out. My 2000 30,000Km Santa Fe AWD does virbrate at 100-110kph but it will not vibrate once I pass 110Kph. The faster I go the less vibration I get. So sometimes I drove 120Km/h to aviod the vibration. Thank you, have a nice day.
P.S My dealer told me the BFgoodrich might cost the problem since it is a big off road tires. I agree with his point. |

Hi Congo99
I will be more than happy to give you this information, this is the only part # I could find on my repair bill # 49300.26100 drive shaft Hope this is correct , my dealer told me he took the drive shaft from an other SF (brand new) in his lot ,because he didn't want me to wait any longer , and also he his not sure if Hyundai Canada would pay him back for the fix that he made because they didn't have any complaints besides me regarding this issue .I hope my dealer gets paid because he gave me an excellent service and a loaner at no cost for a few days. Regards Marc |

Marc who is your dealer in Montreal. I go to Chomedy hyundai in Laval and get very good service. The only vibration I got from my 2001 SF was my tire had a flat tire and after repair it needed balancing. I was one of the fortunate one to get the Michelin tires.
Hey first come first serve. LOL I know the second batch that came out in Feb/2001, Had Bf goodrich tires, I think that was to keep the cost down. Next time I see my friend(Hyundai rep. in Quebec) I'll mention to him about the shaft problems. Hayppy it got resolved. |

dude, check your wheel balance.i dont know if you canadians call it this but in australia we do.
its that little shinny piece of lead that is fitted on your rims.this is the major cause of wheel vibration at high speed. |
