Hi. I've been working through some quotes via email with a few Hyundai dealers in my area (New Jersey), mostly with the internet
type reps at the dealership (to avoid haggling with the sales reps in person). I did a "request quote" through edmunds page to start the process.
Anyway the lowest two or three are in the same ballpark. I could sure use your help in telling me where I could negotiate further, or if the quote is fair.
2008 Santa Fe SE AWD
__________________________________MSRP___________Invoice (edmunds)
Base________________________________25,850_________24,550
Destination charge________________________695___________695
Accessories_____________________________635___________529
= total_______________________________27,180_________25,774
discount (mostly rebates & incentive)______________________-3,752
= Price quote, before fees________________27,180_________22,022
Fees (totals 731):
DMV (I live in New Jersey)________________________________357
Dealer doc____________________________________________189
Etching (will be removed if I don't want etching)________________185
= grand total before tax__________________________________22,753
Is this quote fair? The discount off MSRP (3,752) seems pretty decent and I thought the 22,022 was a nice number until I started hearing about the fees which
drives the total up to 22,753. Of course each dealer claims these are mandatory charges. I'm not familiar with what these fees are for but I remember
buying a car years ago and being told to be alert to any bogus fee the dealer tries to tack on.
I will try to get these guy down more simply on the basis of competition, but I was wondering if I have a basis for asking them to reduce or remove any of the
extra fees. DMV sounds like something that could be legit. But Dealer Doc & Itching...sound bogus to me but I could be wrong.
I can use all the help I can get with reviewing any aspect of the quote you can give me feedback on. Thanks a bunch for your help!
