I have had a hard time finding a wax that I like. It's either too easy to put on or difficult to work and not smooth enough. I thought I'd found that
golden bullet in the Griot's Garage 'Best of Show Wax'. Having used their random orbital, polishes, and clay, I had very high hopes for this wax
and was ecstatic when I finally got it. As it turned out, the only thing it was best at was testing my patience. It goes on unevenly (despite weeks of
twiddling with the amount, speed of the buffer, and how I put it on the pad) and promptly turns to concrete. Even on light colors it leaves marks when it's
removed but on dark colors, it leaves huge swaths of marks that look like buffer burn. Additionally, the Griot's wax does not give me that snot-smooth
surface feel I'm looking for. It was smooth but nothing to write home about. So it gets a D- from me.
So recently I gave a new product a try; Mother's California Gold Carnauba Cleaner Wax. I could not be happier with the results. After claying it and applying this wax, the paint has a luster I haven't seen in ages and it's slicker than a baby's backside. I used it pretty liberally but it came off pretty easily without leaving trails. I've yet to wash the car after the application of this wax (the dirt seems to be having a tough time finding a surface to hold on to) but I will report back on the durability and water beading properties.
So far, this wax gets an A+ from me. If you're searching for just the right stuff, check out Mother's California Gold Carnauba Cleaner Wax.
The next wax I'm going to check out is Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection. From what I've been told it doesn't get any smoother than that.
