You may recall about three months ago we had a set of drains installed at the base of our driveway. This is because the design the builders chose offered very
poor drainage so we added a set around the base to improve it. Unfortunately, the company that fitted them did a poor job of controlling the slope, leading to
a 4" deep trench at the center of the drains. It was hard on the Santy every time she would come in and out and everybody who walked over it nearly broke
their ankles.
We have gotten the company to replace the
drains although we are still fighting with them as they want US to pay for their screw up.
Since we have two weeks until the cars can travel over the new concrete, the Santy, mom's Lexus, and dad's Acura are all parked outside, leaving the garage empty. We decided to take advantage of this vacancy and remodel the entire garage. So far, we've gotten rid of the ugly old shelves, painted with semi-gloss white paint, fitted new lights, and picked out new cabinets. We are also going to apply an epoxy to the floor to help keep it clean. Here are some photos of the progress so far.
A few before photos:
What a mess...
Fairly poor lighting...
With the shelves out, you can see how much dirt and grit has accumulated under there over the years.
As the walls have never been painted since they built in 1994, they were VERY dry and thirsty. They wound up soaking the primer right up so two coats of paint were necessary. You can see the color difference behind me.
Remember the crappy old flood lights? Check out our brand-new T8 florescent fixtures. We installed six of the seven tonight and there is still one more left. It's almost painfully bright in here at night now.
Excessive slack in the power cords was solved with this inelegant yet effective solution.
