Had this hair-brained idea today (I''ll explain at the end). I buy a new cabin filter for my '08. Go to the local auto parts store because the
dealership wants $60 to replace it.
I replaced it for
$17.00 and 5 minutes time, no tools.
Long story short, it's been a year this month that I've owned the '08, I've replaced the filter repeatedly on my '02 Santy, how hard can it be to figure it out? Turns out, it's even easier on the 2nd gen Santy. Absolutely everyone and anyone can change it out on your own without a single tool, without taking anything apart to get to the filter. Open the glove box, squeeze each side of the glove box inward a little to let the rubber stoppers on both sides slip past the little grooves they sit in, let the box hang gently on its own and - there is the filter housing sitting horizontally!!! That simple. Squeeze the 4 tabs gently (because they WILL break very easily if you are over-bearing with them), and slide the filter housing toward you. the filter is held in the housing in by 4 little plastic tabs. Just grab the filter by the pleats near each tab and pull it inwards then up & out to clear these little tabs. Install of the new filter is the exact opposite. It took me longer to type this little essay than it did to change the filter, it is that quick.
Now for the hair-brained idea!! To top it off nicely, before you install the new filter back into the car......lightly mist both sides of the filter with your favorite scent. My wife had this Yankee Candle Midsummers Night spray. I slightly misted the filter on both sides (not soaked, just light coverage), installed in the car, let sit for at least an hour to dry. Automatic air freshener every time the vent is on!! Very strong at first, but then lightens up after a bit. As simple as it is to get to the cabin filter??? You can easily re-apply the scent on the filter any time you want without hassle.
