When coasting in gears 2-4 (could also be 1st, but haven't noticed) because of maybe slow traffic or whatever, foot off gas and brake, when I go to speed up again and press the accelerator there's a noticeable "clunk" as, I'm assuming, the trans reengages. It's not a down shift. Didn't know if this was normal or not (don't think it is). Could be a non-issue since next week I'm taking it in to get two seals replaced due to an oil leak. They have pull the trans to do it so maybe whatever they do will resolve this problem. '03 GLS 4WD

I just put rear seal in for another tech in a new 2009 Santa Fe last week, and replaced trans in 2009 Elantra for "ATF leak inside bellhousing", under 5000 mile will get a replacement trans, beyond 5000 mile,, that is a torque converter seal, and if it leaks again (because the pump bushing is bum in the first place), then it will get a replacement trans.. Your looks prety clean, so it should smooth sail for the tech, except for removal of exhaust manifold (2.7) or the catalyst from the manifold (3.5) and a couple studs to be able to remove transfer from trans case.. Advise the tech to pack the spring side of the seal with grease, and put a film of grease in the seal' lip to lube it ( I prefer MOBIL-1), thus when tapping the seal into place, the spring does not flip out of place and allow for repeat oil leak

But the oil is golden brown, not reddish like I would expect if it was from the trans. Anyway, the two seals that they are going to replace are the front pump seal and the "inner" seal (that's all he referred to it as - don't know if there is an official name for it). '03 GLS 4WD

Posts: 29 (09/07/09 07:34:48) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	They're not replacing the seals, they're replacing the transmission. Apparently the inner seal is non-replaceable. Instead Hyundai dictates that if that seal is bad then they just replace the tranny. So it's on order and should be here on Wed. For once an extended warranty was worth the purchase (had over 60k on it when I bought it, so no more manufacturer's warranty). Since I bought it they've had to replace the the transfer case and now the tranny (and all I had to pay was my deductible). All I need now is a new engine and I'll be set. I also had them order me the driver's door lock regulator and I'll just put that in myself (or at least try to put it in myself). '03 GLS 4WD

Or is that warranty voided when car is re-sold?

I bought it with 86k, so I didn't get manuf. warranty. And the tranny is on backorder with an expected ship date of the 16th, so I've been w/o the car going on 2 weeks now. '03 GLS 4WD

Hasn't been too much of a problem w/only 1 car (yet). By the way LMSF, don't know if you follow Oregon football or not, but y'all got away with one last week! '03 GLS 4WD

Dealer had to call the warranty co. and have them reship the right one. Supposed to be here on Monday. Going on 3 weeks w/o it now. '03 GLS 4WD

I sent in the change of owner form found in the back of the owner's manual back when I bought it. I did have them take a look when the recall first came out since it was already at the dealer for another reason. They said there's virtually no rust anywhere (I think the previous owner wintered in FL, so might not have seen much snow). I took a look myself and didn't see any rust either. They did give me some story of not being able to do the recall unless I had the official recall notice sent to me. Don't know if that's really true or not. I just haven't bothered to pursue it any since I was more worried about the tranny. LMSF...yes those are Continental CrossContact LX's! '03 GLS 4WD

Send me your VIN, I'll run and send you document you can use to get it going. By Hyundai law, they is "supposed' to run every VIN at write up to get recalls taken care of when car is in for service for customer care/satisfaction I sent in the change of owner form found in the back of the owner's manual back when I bought it. Nope, see previous comment, they run VIN, tell you recall present, they supposed to do recall if you agree.... they likely trying to control the recall load (no paper in hand, no recall for you thing), and keep techs busy with customer pay jobs.... I done 2 Santa Fe drill & wax today along with an Elantra.. last 2 weeks,, been maybe 5 Sonata frame replace in a couple days for me alone, and a set of rear arms on 4WD Santa Fe, got lucky, for having high miles, it pretty much fell right apart. I'll get mad if I got to go out of my way for one with seized up parts. Don't know if that's really true or not. Send me your VIN, and when you go to dealer, ask the fella to run your VIN on the Hyundai Dealer site, WEB DCS SERVICE screen, he should perk up a bit and be surprised you know where to look,,,, ask to see the print, it will show original onwer, where it was sold, date of first use, all applicable open recalls, and warranty history on the vehicle, and any specail service contracts.. LMSF...the OEM's were practically bald when I bought it, so the first thing I did was get new tires. Didn't really drive on the originals too much to compare. No complaints so far with the Conti's. Waiting for winter to put them to the test. '03 GLS 4WD
