About that road hazard warranty: I hope those premiums are low.

Let's say you have tires that are about 50% worn, still plenty of tread left and nowhere near worn enough to need replacement yet. You roll over some debris that cuts a tire so it needs replacement, to the tune of about $120 including tax, mounting, and balancing. To maintain equivalent traction characteristics on the same axle (advisable for several reasons), the tire on the other wheel of the same axle also should be replaced. That's $240 total because a tire got cut. They pay only $40 per event, so you pay $200.

Better get out the magnifying glass and read the fine print. At least that way you'll know what to expect.
