No Alarm Chirp from Key Fob ?

Posts: 28 (01/23/10 10:17:40) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None Remove this ad Hi All, Had to take my Santa Fe to the body shop as I hit a deer last thursday. $3500 in damage to the front end. They did a great job, however when I try to lock my doors using the key fob, the doors lock but I don't see the lights flash and there is no alarm chirp. The key fob works as far as unlocking and locking the doors, and if I press the red panic button the alarm will sound. Also, when I unlock the doors, the lights flash ? Anyone know if the guys at the body shop unplugged something or is there a way to reset the key fob to make the alarm chirp and lights flash when I press the lock button ? I did try both of the key fobs and the result is the same...no chirp and no flashing lights. I like this feature when I'm going to work as I know my car is locked and the alarm is enabled. Most common problen across the Hyundai line is the hood switch... especially from bodyshop not installing the black bumper onto new hood, oversight, or it was blown away with crash. Sometimes the switch gets broken, or just not put back.. Open hood, push plunger down with finger and hold, then actuate keyless entry/alarm with remote in other hand.. se if it chirps/honks back at you... do not release plunger if it chirps/honks, alarm will go off because it think somebody just opened the hood, dis-arm first. According to ETM, the connector is beside the right headlamp (between radiator and headlamp) inside the engine compartment, single wire connector. Hood switch appeaers to be in similar location at core support... Pretty bad that I have so many timing belt and headlamp bulbs, and never pay any attention to the fact the hood switch might be right there... EDIT---> (1/25/2010 @ 0915hr)... Looked at Santa Fe a couple stalls down, the switch is on the upper core support between radiator and right head lamp, button/plunger sticks up with a circular plastic fence around it.. the rubber bumper to push the plunger is in the hole right beside the rectangle slot where you place the hood prop rod to hold hood up. Posts: 29 (01/26/10 15:08:33) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Thanks so much for the reply. I opened up the hood...found the plunger and depressed it. Actutated the alarm with the remote and the lights flashed and heard the chirp. When I released the plunger the alarm activated. While I was looking at the front grille, I noticed that the body shop had forogotten or missed two pieces that fit into the bottom of the front hood grille. These pieces are installed on each end of the front grill on the underside where it closes and touches the front bumper fascia. I'll stop by tomorrow and point out that they forgot to put these on and this is probably what is causing the rubber bumper to not push the alarm plunger down. Posts: 30 (01/26/10 17:22:33) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Remove this ad Yes it is. It's on the underside of the hood. My Santa Fe doesn't have a support rod that holds the hood up. As I close the hood...it kinda looks like the rubber bumper wants to push the plunger in ? Christian

Posts: 31 (01/30/10 08:19:58) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Brought the Santa Fe back to the body shop and pointed out the missing pieces. Held the plunger in and activated the alarm using the remote. It all functions as it should. Can't really blame the body shop as when you look at the schematic for the Santa Fe they have on the computer it doesn't show the missing pieces that install to the bottom of the grille. Have to bring it back in Monday when they have a loaner for me and they've promised to make it right. Pointed out that when the hood closes it now rubs on the newly painted bumper fascia and the manager said that they'd repaint it if they have to. Can't say enough about the great customer service. However, I wonder if I should have brought my Santa Fe to an actual Hyundai dealership and would those guys have known about the potential for the alarm to malfunction when the hood is repaired ? Posts: 355 (01/30/10 09:50:10) Moderator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Hood switch is the first place we go when customer states "alarm dont chirp/honk"... only lights flash.. we have found missing bumpers, broken switch, wire cut from sheetmetal buckle and cut the wire/harness. Quick look (experience over time) will tell if car been painted (customer will never admit accident damage) as the car is still under warranty, and crash damage is not warranty. I've seen all kinds of body shop hack work, as insurance companies do not want to pay to properly repair, they dictate what the body shop is allowed to do and how much they will pay to repair your vehicle...

Posts: 32 (01/31/10 06:19:50) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Thanks again for all the help. I have State Farm insurance and my agency is very nice. I"m sure whatever needs to be done to make my Santa Fe perform as it did before the deer strike, they'll pay for it. I have to take my SUV into the body shop (a local BOP dealer) tomorrow and I'll let ya know what they did to fix it. The manager said they'll put a new switch in, raise the radiator support, repaint the bumper fascia... whatever it takes to make it right. So.. with customer service like that I really think they'll get to the bottom of it. One funny thing though... I was sitting here last night watching Smokey and the Bandit... and my car alarm went off all by itself while my SUV was parked in the garage. As I got up to grab the remote and try to turn it off... the alarm turned off by itself. Does that mean that the switch is bad ? Thanks again Christian
