I have a 2003 3.5L with 5-sp automatic. After a certain period of time (several days to a few weeks) the transmission will "buck" when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. This happened again last night. I took the car out and used the manual shift and I could make the car buck every single time when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. When I downshifted into 3rd from 4th, no problem. When I downshifted from 3rd to 2nd, no problem. When I shifted back again from 2nd to 3rd, buck. Every time.
I disconnected the negative battery cable for a few minutes to reset the trans module and the problem went away. I could not make it happen again no matter what I did. This entire cycle has happened several times now and it is clear that it is electronic in nature, and not mechanical.
Is this all in the transmission module? Could it be from anywhere else? If the module is replaced with an new one does it need to be programmed?
