Intermittent squeal of drive belt every so often? |
Lead | |
|
About once a week on start up I get a loud squeal of one of the belts then it disappears. It's a 2003 Sante FE 3.5L 2WD. I had all other belts replaced by dealer along with the timing belt @ 60,000 service in Aug 2007, car now has 88,000. Are these belts difficult to access to adjust or replace? Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!

Appologies for the late response. This really sounds like moisture built up on one of the belt pullies. Have you had any rain or drive through a pudle, or have some high humidity prior to startup on these occassions? Thats my first thought. |

To remedy the problem I had someone other than the dealer change both belts. He mentioned that the A/C-Alt belt was loose which fits because I was able to stop the squeak by turning off A/C.
One other note is that the dealer changed both of the belts @ 60,000 in 2007 (current milage 87,000) but I'm not sure they were Hyundai OEM belts, the A/C belt had no marking & the PS belt which had a damaged rib was marked Bando RIB-ACE

Glad you remedied the problem! At least that's all it was fortunately. Thats interesting that the dealer installed non-OEM belts. I wonder if thats a cost-cutting measure for the dealerships? In the past I've replaced one belt on my first Santy, did that myself, and it was ordered from a location in Jersey. That one was OEM. But all other belts on any vehicle I've had was always non-OEM!! Cheaper, but do not seem to fit perfectly or last as long for whatever reason.
