IMO, the one best episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation was not one that emphasized the show's imagined future technology but one that emphasized the characters and the story. The episode was titled "The Inner Light," about Captain Picard living vicariously the life of another man, thirty years in about thirty minutes. Watch the episode and you'll understand.
